David Zaid is Superintendent of the Long Beach Unified School District, assuming the role July 1, following more than three decades of service to the district.

David Zaid is Superintendent of the Long Beach Unified School District, assuming the role July 1, following more than three decades of service to the district. A graduate of Long Beach Polytechnic High School, Zaid has spent his entire 32-year education career with Long Beach Unified, serving in classroom, school leadership and district administrative roles. His previous positions include director of employee relations, assistant superintendent of human resource services and assistant superintendent of elementary and K-8 schools. Throughout his career, he has led initiatives focused on student achievement, equity, innovation and school improvement while working closely with students, families, educators and community partners. Zaid succeeds retiring Superintendent Jill Baker and oversees one of California’s largest public school districts.
